Résumé : |
This study shows that four fifths of the participating women had previously used medical contraception, but almost two thirds of those had discontinued this use due to adverse effects. Two thirds reported using a mix of condom, withdrawal and a calendar method. Highest satisfaction was expressed with diaphragm/cap, fertility monitors and the Billings method. Most women displayed poor awareness of their menstrual cycle. Using non-medical contraception was a conscious decision for some and a passive choice for others.
In conclusion, frequent use of withdrawal and a calendar method, as well as poor fertility awareness, suggests a need for improved counselling at contraceptive clinics on fertility awareness and more effective non-medical contraceptive methods to assist women in making an informed contraceptive choice. |
